August 8th Montreal, QUE - CANADA MEDLEY Arriving at the border around 9 in the morning we learned once again that the promoter had not taken care of business. Dreadful as it must be for Glen, we had to realize that both Canadian promoters gave us major trouble, and this time 3? hour of waiting for the necessary paperwork to be processed. We finally arrived in Montreal, and immediately went to load in, and set up equipment. Two local bands had been added to the bill at "The Medley" was packed close to limit. We have to apologize to the fans for not bringing enough of merchandise. Tour T-shirts, cap's and bandannas all were sold out by 8 o'clock - only 3 hours after the doors had been opened, and long before we went on stage. We can not justify this, but it's beyond ourcontrol. All tour-merchandise is sold by a company we have contracted, and as such licenser they are in control. They had simply not sent enough stuff to Canada, for which we again can only say sorry !!! It won't happen again. Following the show, King spent 15 signing autographs at the parking lot; a rare occasion, considering this cold 'summer' night. Montreal is a lively city, and we had a nice party going on at the hotel, together with members of the support bands. In fact the party went so well, that other guests had to change room around 4 in the morning. Of course we understood their problem getting enough sleep, and compensated them for the extra room charge. August 9th OFF / Travel back to USA. A nice and easy travel day where we slept most of the way, largely due to the lack of sleep the night before. We arrived in Waterbury in the early evening, and went out to dinner. August 10th Waterbury, NY CITY LIMITS is a place we visited with Mercyful Fate last year with little success. They had however made great improvements at and once again we had a very pleasant day, where the band again delivered a performance to be remembered. King left the venue quickly after the show, to get back to the hotel, but the band stuck around and signed autographs. We admired yet another piece of body art, a large alum tattoo on a loyal fan through 20 years. Unfortunately my camera was out of reach. Hope You'll forgive the missing illustration of this. We left town around 3 in the morning, spirits high on the bus, with a new 'Pink Panter' video delivered to us from one of our previous crew members who now lives up here. August 11th Rochester, NY WATER STREET MUSIC HALL. Once again we arrived in pouring rain. The daily routine makes the day look very much alike. Check in at hotel, go to load in of equipment, and deal with eventual problems. Nothing to mention at this place. To the contrary was all in perfect order, even a post office next door, which is very convenient, and a nice little Mediterranean restaurant only a block away. If every day could be like this, ( well just dreaming ), and another night on he bus. August 12th Centerridge - Long Island - NY VOODOO LOUNGE So we arrived at 10 in the morning and after some debate at the hotel got our rooms at 11 o'clock, and moved down to check out the Voodoo Lounge. This was the third location for our Long Island show - only show in the New York City area, and as such a rather important date. It takes some explanation for the fans and amazed bystanders, to justify this show. The New York metal scene has for several years been on a down slide; and it's very hard to find decent venues. The original show was scheduled atTokyo Joe's - a place we have never seen or heard about - but was then moved to an unknown location in the vicinity, which was then made impossible to use for reasons beyond our control. A last chance to get the date in place was suggested, and although it was far from what we wanted, we went for it, provided the necessary equipment ( PA and monitors ) would be provided. For this show at the Voodoo Lounge it seemed an almost impossible task, and we were on the edge on a cancellation up to last minute. It was clear for us that we would never be able to present a "show" - more to the reality, it was King Diamond playing live for a small crowd of fans, on our backline and home stereo type PA, smaller than what we use in our rehearsal room. We know this is not what fans read about and expect from King Diamond, but the alternative had been a cancellation, and given the fact that attendees of the show know about the size of the Vodoo Lounge, I trust that nobody expected the 'grand scale theatrical show'. So in other words, we did it for the fans, hope you enjoyed the intimate performance. August 13th - Old Bridge,NJ BIRCH HILL is always a pleasure. We feel like coming home. When I find the dressing room set up like we like it, because they remember from last year and the year before and the year before that - then we know we're welcome. The room was packed to limit and a wild sweaty mob of bangers gave the security enough work for the wee to come - without any incidents though. Certainly one of the highlights of the tour. We had met up with old friends Jethro and Mini-Jethro who both had a great evening, introducing tattoo Tom to the band. As a true admirer, he offered free tattoo's for everyone, end light tech Niller immediately took up the opportunity, to improve on previous work. John also went under the needles, only 1?hour before he went on stage. After the show we enjoyed a couple of drinks before we turned in. August 14th Day Off Finally a real day off. Only a few miles to travel, and we were in Philadelphia. It was pouring rain, but a day off is always appreciated, specially when it's the last of only two days off on the entire tour. We went different places. Some went shopping, other for better food, and eventually met up in the hotel bar for drinks, while " Tattoo Tom" came around for another couple of needle points in plain public. He simply set up in the bar, among other bar guest's and connected his machinery and went off on someone's arm. August 15th Philadelphia,PA TROCADERO No hang over, still plenty of time for load-in, and a sushi-bar next door. It's is another place we enjoy, and look forward to playing. "The Trocadero" is a great old fashion theater, with a large stage and nice balconies. Also here well packed for a great show. King handed out 'real' Christmas Presents this night. August 16th Springfield, NC GROUND ZERO is not the most impressive place, but the fans certainly made up for it. For the entire tour we haven't heard so much sing along. Following the show King invited a particular fan back stage for a good chat, before going back to the hotel. August 16th Springfield, VA JAXX is a small club. We have been there several times before, but never had such a great reception. Despite the somewhat limited conditions it turned out to be an excellent night. August 17th Spartanburg,NC GROUND ZERO is not the most impressive place, but the fans certainly made up for it. For the entire tour we haven't heard so much sing along. Following the show King invited a particular fan back stage for a good chat, before going back to the hotel, signing another number of autographs on the way. August 18th Atlanta, GA MASQUERADE Hot, hot, hot are the first thoughts about this city. Heavy traffic into town and the bus generator burned down, so we lost the air-condition. Outside temperature was probably way over 100F in the baking sun. The Masquerade is a great venue, ( on 2nd floor ) of a great entertainment building, with air condition. Load in was heavy, but reasonable, with a old fashion outdoor warehouse lift bringing all flight cases 30Ft up. Dressing rooms are perfect, food great, and the staff professionals who know how to handle a show. Had a short phot shoot before stage all, and had another great night in front of a rather wild audience. August 19th St. Petersburg, FL JANUS LANDING is our first out door show. It was hotter than hell when we got out of the bus, and the sun was shining merciless from a blue sky. Band members went for the beach while set up of stage commenced in the usual routine. There was a great atmosphere in this great place, and it was still hot as hell when the band entered into the final encore "No Presents For Christmas"
